Freelance web designer profile

Andreas Asmus, (510)849-0892, andreas@asmusinteractive.com

Education in visual communication & graphic design

Andreas was born in Germany and after completing his studies there established his life in the San Francisco Bay Area, San Francisco and moved to Berkeley in the East Bay in 2000.

Andreas studied visual communication and graphic design (BFA) at the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany.

Fields of studies included typography, photography, perceptional psychology, technology, design and civilization history.

Bauhaus design philosophy

Through his studies at the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung in Schwäbisch Gmünd which views itself in the tradition of the Bauhaus design philosophy and that of the Ulm School of Design, Andreas developed a very systematic approach to design.

An approach that starts with research about the object of design first and then in turn leads to meaningful concepts and design approaches which successfully manage to communicate the essence at hand.

Design approach and philosophy

Andreas is a strong advocate of the “Less is more” and “Form follows function” design philosophy — two of the main pillars of the Bauhaus design tradition.

He believes that in today's fast paced, information driven world it is more important than ever to clearly communicate, to make the complex simple, and to create “space” for the eye and mind — allowing information to be processed in a meaningful way.
